Old San Juan in a Weekend

Thursday, March 10, 2016

It has been over a month since my last post. I am a crazy person. Seriously. I feel like such a suburban cliche, but I have so much going on at the moment and so many things pulling me in so many different directions. I need a t-shirt that just says I'M SORRY on it. We could add, MY HEAD IS UP MY OWN ARSE. That would be most accurate.

At the beginning of February, I temporarily increased my hours at my real job to four days a week, thinking it really wouldn't be that tough on us. What's one more day? I couldn't have been more wrong. It's crushing us. Crushing. It doesn't help that my husband's business has picked up tremendously and he's the type of guy who doesn't turn down work, ever. No matter what. Ever. I could be a small blob heap in the middle of the room, slobbering on myself, with blood and boogers coming out my eyes and ears and he'd be like, "What's for dinner tonight? Panera? I'm going to go make calls for tomorrow, be down in a little. That Botox Lady does a great job on you, by the way." It's an overstatement, sure. But the point is, we are both pushing ourselves to the max, and it isn't pretty.

I just keep thinking that I'm so thankful my OGBFF offered to have me tag along on the tail end of a business trip she took at the end of January. It was the quickest weekend, but it was so needed.

At the end of last season, I was burnt out. In an attempt to get as much experience and meet as many needs as I could possibly meet, I booked every single available moment, and all of my spare time. And then I booked all of my not spare time. It kind of turned me off the camera if I'm going to be honest. A little bit. I did learn a lot, about family photo shoots, and myself as a learner/human being. I learned a lot about who I will one day become as a photographer, if I can keep all of this up.

So these last several weeks have been a great restorative period for me in regards to taking pictures. Unfortunately I haven't had much time to play like I like, because of my work week, but that will settle back in, just in time for the spring season to start gearing up. Cue universe laughter here.

The weekend I flew to Puerto Rico with my best friend of I don't know, decades, I took my camera and not much else. Here's what I shot:

As usual these were all shot with my Nikon D610 and most with my 16 - 35 mm. Not the most inconspicuous lens to be carting around, but after all it was only Puerto Rico not Nicaragua or I don't even know what I'm talking about right now so insert a more dangerous area here. Plus I had to burn off all those sangria calories so I thought, what the hell?

This trip proved more than just a beautiful training ground for me. I also got a chance to catch up with a dear friend, to explore a city I'd never been to, and to take some moments to stare deeply into the eyes of what could have possibly been the very best looking latte I've ever met. Until we meet again.

Thanks for looking,
